Dennis E. Owens, MBA, CPCC, PCC
Leadership Development and Executive Coaching
Dennis provides coaching, consulting, training and facilitation services in leadership and management development, leadership coaching skills, team building, and communication skills, as well as in the development and management of organizations and human resource management programs. He currently serves as an executive coach and adjunct faculty member for the Federal Executive Institute (FEI) and Falls River Center; and has a private coaching practice covering both professional and life coaching. Dennis has also worked as a facilitator, trainer, and coach with the University of Virginia, OPM’s Western Management Development Center, and a number of Federal, state, local, and private organizations.
Dennis has over 25 years experience in Federal human resources and program management in all areas of program operations, policy, program development, and evaluations. He served in the Senior Executive Service (SES) as the Director, Office of Human Resources Management, and as the Deputy Associate Director, Operations Support Directorate, for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Washington, D.C. He also served on the FEI faculty full time for two years as an Executive-in-Residence; and spent two and a half years on active duty in the U.S. Army as a Counterintelligence Officer.
Dennis is certified by the International Coach Federation as a Professional Certified Coach (PCC). He is also a Certified Professional Co-Active Coach (CPCC); is certified in the Myers-Briggs Personality Type Indicator (MBTI), both Steps I & II, and the FIRO-B; accredited in the Emotional Competence Inventory (Daniel Goleman/Hay Group); certified in the Benchmarks 360 assessment instrument (Center for Creative Leadership); and is experienced with a variety of other 360 assessment instruments. He is also certified in Federal workforce mediation and is a certified facilitator and technician on the Falls River Center experiential learning (ropes) course. Dennis has a BS in Public Administration from Virginia Tech and an MBA from George Mason University. He is a graduate of FEI's Leadership for a Democratic Society Program (February 1991), The Coaches Training Institute (C.P.C.C.), Otto Kroeger Associates (MBTI), The Justice Center of Atlanta (Workforce Mediation), The Hay Group (Emotional Competence Inventory), and CCL’s Assessment Certification Workshop. He currently resides in Charlottesville, Virginia, with his wife.
